Hallo !

Ich habe vor ein paar Tagen eine neue CPU/Mainboard/Grafikkarte gekauft und daher das System neu installiert. Nach ein paar Stunden habe ich einmal das Nikon Capture 4.2 gestartet und der Rechner ist mit einem BlueScreen abgestürzt.

Ich habe es jetzt - nach anfänglichen Verdacht eines Hardwareproblems - das SP2 für XP als "Schuldigen" ausfindig machen können. Weiß jemand dafür einen Workaround oder was genau das Problem verursacht?

P.S. Nach einer Deinstallation von SP2 funktioniert Capture wieder...

....ich hab das system komplett neuinstalliert, nachdem ich (fast) alle hardware ausgebaut und getestet habe. auf einem komplett frischen system ist dann nach sp2 der fehler beim capture aufgetreten.

ja, ich kann auch ohne leben. die frage ist nur, muss ich das?
möglicherweise ist in der neuen capture version der fehler behoben oder es gibt einen fix für das sp2

sonst jemand, der in dieser konstellation ein problem hatte? auf dpreview dürfte es schon einigen so ergangen sein, doch lösung habe ich keine gefunden.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Security Feature may force Nikon Capture to quit

With the release of Windows XP Service pack 2 (SP2), a new security feature called DEP (Data Execution Prevention) was added to prevent some types of worms and virus software circulating on the Internet from executing. As with all operating system updates, Nikon Corporation Quality Assurance will require at minimum 60 days from the formal release of any new OS or update to analyze operating issues and update and test any updates to be made available.

Microsoft anticipated some difficulties with various products already on the market and took steps to allow for the customization of the DEP protection systems to allow user selected software programs and/or services to run outside of the protection of the DEP system umbrella.

Nikon has confirmed that the Nikon Capture 4.x software will encounter a DEP protection error on some systems with American Micro Devices (AMD) 64 bit processors. There have been reports of the problem appearing on Intel Xenon Based Systems, but in far fewer numbers. The typical scenario varies in accordance to how your Windows XP system is configured to operate when it encounters a system level error, some systems will just reboot and make an entry in the system log, others will present a blue screen indicating a “driver problem” with no available choices except to reboot the system.

To reconfigure your system to allow for Nikon Capture to operate, there are three possible solutions presented in order of ease:

Configure DEP to ignore Nikon Capture
Configure the Windows XP boot.ini file to disallow DEP for the entire system
Uninstall Service Pack 2

Solution 1: Configure DEP to ignore Nikon Capture
Open the control panel folder and double click the “System” icon
Click the “Advanced” tab

Click the “Settings” button in the “Performance” area



Click the “Data Execution Prevention” tab
Click the radio button that indicates you wish to specify programs for DEP NOT to operate on
Navigate to the Nikon Capture directory (Default path is C:/Programs Files/Nikon/Nikon Capture)



Click the “Apply” button in all presented dialogs
Reboot your PC
Restart Nikon Capture
If the system again reboots, you will need to proceed to Solution #2.

Solution 2: Disallow DEP for the entire system
Solution #2 is to disable DEP at the boot.ini file level. Please note that this requires very careful editing of the boot.ini file, a single space in the wrong location can prevent your system from starting. Due to the complex nature and computer specific nature, Nikon Support cannot assist with the editing of the boot.ini file.

Solution 3: Uninstall Service Pack 2
If you are not comfortable editing the boot.ini file, you can proceed to the third option, which is to uninstall Service Pack 2. We don’t generally suggest uninstalling SP2, as it provides important security features for computers that are connected to a network or Internet. If you PC is used for stand-alone image editing and is not connected to any network or to the Internet, you can safely uninstall SP2 until the point where an update for Nikon Capture is made available (We expect this to be available in very early 2005). This will not be an option on recently purchased systems as SP2 is included in the base operating system installation and the disks included with the new PC will only install Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
